* A pilot randomised controlled trial found that TRM was effective in helping families reduce conflict and improve their relationships. Results were published in Child Abuse and Neglect in 2018, https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0145213418300814 and in the Nordic Journal of Music Therapy https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/08098131.2019.1616807

* A summary of the research about the importance of assessing and working with the nonverbal aspects of parent-child interaction can be found at https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10826-016-0563-x

  • Current research at The Cairnmillar Institute (CMI) aims to explore factors that will allow counselling, psychotherapy and psychology students to offer TRM to families as part of their studies. This is the first step of a three-phase project which will later ask families about their experience of TRM at CMI, then offer families the opportunity to take part in a larger scale randomised controlled trial.
